During the winter months, Perth experiences flash floods and heavy rainfall which may cause your pool to overfill. You must dump water to reduce the risk of overflowing (water level approaching and flooding the skimmer box). Overflow of a pool stops the skimmer box from skimming the debris from the surface of the water effectively and makes your pool dirty, fast! You can dump the water in several different ways depending on the configuration of your pool equipment and the type of filter you have.
You do not need to dump water in pools that already have an overflow connected to your pool system.
Sand filters have a waste position on the multiport valve which will allow you to dump water directly down the waste line. Alternatively, the pool can be set on backwash until the water level decreases. The surplus water is used up with the added benefit of cleaning your filter.
Cartilage filters have a 3-way valve plumbed into the system after the pump. You must position the valve in a way that directs the flow of water away from the pool and into a soak well.
Note: 1. Be careful not to drop the level too low 2. Keep a close eye on the soak well, as they can fill up quickly with the volume of water being drained or dumped from the pool.
